Why isn’t there a 'first to mind' app when it comes to productivity? What kind of product does the current market need?

Methods
Market Analysis
White Paper Research
Findings
Mental Models
GTD ( Get things done), Atomic habits, other popular productivity techniques like pomodoro, etc.
Pain points
Sourced from app reviews, Reddit & Discord productivity communities , youtube comments
Conclusion
  • There are more than 10 different categories of productivity apps depending on specific goals or tasks. Most of the apps are based on popular Mental Models like Getting Things Done, Atomic Habits & other popular productivity techniques like Pomodoro.

  • Only the users who are aware of these models manage to be effectively productive & in control while a section of the users do not get habituated to these apps or find it hard to cope up with in the early stages.

What are the behaviours that prevent the users from effectively using apps to accomplish their goals?

Methods
User Interviews
Behaviour Analysis
Findings
Patterns
Common behaviour among users repeating over time or scenarios impacting their productivity were observed
Themes
Patterns could be further grouped into Capture, Reflect, Organise, Plan & Execute
Insights
The themes could be combined with learning models like Conscious Competency Model & Gamification
Oppurtunities
Familiarise & habituate ROPE themed app which demonstrates & habituates all the GTD principles to the target Persona
Conclusion
  • Users unfamiliar with GTD Mental Models were chosen & interviewed to understand how they manage their productivity goals & how using an app in the process benefitted them & the pain points they encountered in these scenarios.

  • The user behaviour was analysed by sorting & grouping the users’ answers into primary behaviour, secondary behaviour, expectations, attitude.

  • Patterns that impacted productivity were observed.
By further analysis 5 larger themes were discovered through which meaningful insights were drawn, that revealed an opportunity to enter the market in the ‘task management’ category for the chosen persona (Students & early professionals inclined to push their productivity)

How might we help the users to effectively achieve their goals so that they act with clarity and find balance managing all their interests?

Methods
Mind Map
User Journey
Information Architecture
Developments
User Stories
Design System
Wireframes
Conclusion
  • A journey was designed to align the user's actions with the GTD (Getting Things Done) methodologies, involving navigation through Capture, Reflect, Organize, Plan, and Execute. This structure allows users to understand the principles of productivity, build and track patterns affecting their goals, and balance their interests effectively.

  • The approach aims to protect and enhance the user's motivation to be productive and stay focused on their targets.
